Frequently Asked Questions
Why memorize chord tones?
Improvisation and comping are built on instantly knowing where the 3rd and 7th of the current chord are. Once degree-to-note conversion becomes a reflex, reading, voicing, and soloing all get faster.
Is any octave accepted as correct?
Yes. This tool judges by pitch class, so any octave counts. The skill being trained is instant degree-to-note-name recall, not register.
How are 7alt chords asked?
For 7alt (altered) chords, the tool asks the 3rd and 7th plus ♭9 and ♯9 as separate questions. The 5th is not asked, since it is conventionally omitted on altered chords.
