Frequently Asked Questions

What is voice leading?

Voice leading is the practice of connecting chords with the smallest possible motion between voices. Common tones stay; other voices move by half- or whole-step. This tool generates voicings that are pre-optimized for the entire progression.

Why is an octave-displaced answer marked wrong?

Strict mode requires an exact MIDI match including register and inversion. This builds muscle memory for textbook left-hand placements.

What does Rootless A/B Auto mean?

Rootless voicings (Bill Evans style) come in A form (3rd on bottom) and B form (7th on bottom). 'Auto' picks the form that minimizes movement from the previous chord, which naturally produces the classic A→B→A alternation through cycles of fourths.
